Yin Yoga All About
Some thoughts from TJ • Lead Teacher & Founder of YUJMU
How Yin Yoga & Meditation Changed Me
| And Why I’m So Passionate About Sharing It |
I have always been searching, through Art, activities, experiences, for something that felt like arriving, like satisfaction. I have yet to find anything that actually does that except sustained practice of Yin Yoga and Meditation.
Yin Yoga makes me feel like my body is my home (reading those words is a whole other feeling than feeling it), it makes me feel unencumbered by tensions or pain or even that occasional subtle undirected restlessness. Prolonged daily practice of Yin Yoga makes me feel free, like there is no barrier between “I”, my body and the outside. It is a default state of ease, without any unconscious, habitual clenching in the body, it is a state I didn’t even know I could have, yet there it was, hiding under all the years of conditioning that Yin Yoga slowly unwound.
Meditation is similar but more made my mind feel completely different in that I felt like time was a beautiful friend & companion instead of a clock ticking away my life that I needed to hide from with distractions. I could find peace waiting, I could find serenity in my daily turmoils, nothing had to happen, I inexplicably began to appreciate the ups & downs. It wasn’t profound, meditation just rewired things so I could let the “me” that I enjoyed (that everyone enjoyed) rise to the surface by default and the “me” that was unhelpful recede to a whisper.
Its tricky to describe experience and perception but we hold so much that we can let go of and these practices train us to do that better. The world needs relief and the ability to love and I know Yin Yoga and Meditation do that. This is what inspires me to thrive as hard as I can so I can share and speak about these practices to anyone who is interested because I know in my heart that people will benefit from this. Its not a quick fix or easy but if you prioritize it and tend to it daily like a garden it will provide for you in the moments that you need it.
Don’t take my or anyone’s word for it, test it, see for yourself if it’s your jam ♥️

TJ started YUJMU in 2014 as a way to help spread Yin Yoga worldwide in pursuit of his aspiration to “put as much love into the world as you can before you die”.
TJ describes his teaching style as “Spongebob/Zen” because why get all Zen if you’re not also going to play, be goofy & have fun :D
