Welcome To LEVEL 2

New Students

Preparation Info!

Congratulations on choosing to make the time in your life to look deeper, refreshing your body and refining your skills at helping others. We are looking forward to seeing you again and this page will begin to prepare you.

This training will cover a large amount of content and practice that immerses you in Yin mentally and physically.  There will be significant introspection, self reflection and sustained sensations throughout the body in the asanas.  If you have any health conditions or emotional concerns that we can help prepare or adapt for, you may reach out to us at any time to discuss.

*** If you have any recent or significant physical/mental trauma, health changes or concerns please consult with your chosen medical professional to ensure that this is an appropriate time for you to attend.

Contact us at any time with your questions, we love to chat :)

Time & Energy

As you know from Level 1 the training will use up your energy and focus even though it is also relaxing.  The training will be immersive and previous students have found attempts to maintain any work, teaching or other things that you may plan to do (if you live locally) distracting and tiring.  It is advised that you clear your schedule on training days.

Requirements

To graduate from the training and be YUJMU Level 2 Certified you must complete the following:

  • 2 page essay evaluating, examining and otherwise contemplating your experience of teaching Yin Yoga since completing Level 1. If you have not taught (which is fine))) then discuss why and focus on insights from your own practice since completing Level 1. [Begin Now]

  • Read (or reread) The Miracle Of Mindfulness by Thich Nhat Hanh — this is the required reading for this course, be sure to complete it preferably prior to the start of the training but if you register close to the start date you have until the last training day to read the book. [Begin Now]

  • Read the Yin Nuance book

  • Maintain a regular journal [Begin Now]

  • Attend all scheduled contact hours

  • Complete the Teaching Practice during the training

  • Your are responsible for ensuring you complete these as instructed during the training if you wish to be certified.

What to Bring

thermo (1).png

Sealable Water/Tea Bottle

Things get knocked over a lot in Yin sessions :) plus we looooove our tea mmmm and of course its better for beautiful Gaia to refill and reuse :D

laundry.png

Comfortable Clothing

We recommend you bring something for hot & cold environments. Temperatures can vary widely in the venues and we are not able to accommodate each student’s preferred temperature.

Your Fav Yogi Gear

Check with the venue you plan to attend at to see what they provide and bring anything you like: mat, blanket, eye pillow, etc.

notebook (2).png

Notebook + Pen/Pencil

Or any colorful jazzyjazz writing items if thats how you roll :D

1 Tennis Balls

This will be for myofascial release practice, tennis balls are cheap and more effective than even the specialized balls but you may bring any other MFR balls you prefer to use

1 Mala Necklace

Any beaded mala necklace will suffice (roughly 108 beads with a larger center bead) — bracelet malas and rosaries will not be sufficient for our needs.

Your Level 1 Materials

We will be referencing the Yin Asana quite a bit so you should bring whichever materials were provided to you during your Level 1 training.

Reading

Read (or re-read) the The Miracle Of Mindfulness and be prepared to ask questions or discuss it.  You may purchase/bring any edition that you like.  It is a fluid, easy read but (not without irony))) it should be read with mindfulness as it is conveying subtle concepts.

Notes:

  • You must complete the reading before the first day of training.

Due:

  • Each trainee will be expected to contribute thoughts and opinions about the text during group discussions.

  • Trainees may be called on (casually) to test their comprehension of the material.

  • If you have registered within a week of the start date you may complete it during the training.

“Don’t do any task in order to get it over with. Resolve to do each job in a relaxed way, with all your attention. Enjoy and be one with your work.”

— Thich Nhat Hanh, The Miracle Of Mindfulness

As a refresh of Level 1 Yin Nuance: The Tao Of Practicing & Teaching Yin Yoga is an excellent way to dive back into what you had learned. I wrote it as a culmination and supplement to many of the things I speak about during the trainings that are not explicitly in the slides.

Notes:

  • I will not require my book to be purchased so if you do not read it I am ok with that :)

  • There may be a lending copy at the venue you are attending or from another student.

  • If you would like to purchase a copy please contact me.

  • If you would like to purchase multiple copies and offer (or sell) the books to your students I can provide a wholesale discount.

“You are the continual process of a perfectly imbalanced system rebalancing itself.”

— TJ Maher, Yin Nuance

If you completed & comprehend the above texts and are looking for further reading here are some optional options:

  • The Complete Guide To Yin Yoga by Bernie Clark — If you have not already read this book it is highly recommended you do as a Yin Yoga enthusiast.

  • The Tao Te Ching — You read this for Level 1 but it is always worth revisiting if you have not checked it out since then, it’s a text that keeps giving. This link is for the first translation I ever read, a very good one with a different flavor than the one I recommended for Level 1.

Essay

Evaluate, examine and otherwise contemplate your experience of teaching Yin Yoga since completing Level 1. If you have not taught (which is fine))) then discuss why and focus on insights from your own practice since completing Level 1.

Notes:

  • L2 will have more self reflection as refining your Yin skills and teaching skills is a very individualized process.

  • The intention of assigning this essay is for you to begin in earnest the contemplation and unpacking of how you are practicing & teaching so that you can evolve to your potential in this training.

Due:

  • Must be submitted via email prior to first day of training

  • May be submitted as a printout on the first day

  • If you have registered within a week of the start date you may submit it during the training.

Journaling

During the training you will also be expected to journal during the evenings or off hours to help process what you learn.

You will be expected to journal about your experiences of the training and The Miracle Of Mindfulness.  This will assist in processing, personalizing and recording your experience of Yin & Meditation.  I will check the journal but not its content.

Notes:

  • You can journal each evening after the training times or throughout the day as preferred.

  • You should begin journaling as soon as you register.

Due

  • Checked during the final 2 days of training.

  • I do not always check the journals but if I do and you have not demonstrated regular entries you will not have completed the requirements for certification.
